As the Osun State Government begins recruiting 1000 cadets for Amotekun Corps in the State, a civil society coalition in the State, The Osun Mastermind, TOM, has warned Governor Ademola Adeleke against politicising the exercise.
Governor Ademola Adeleke approved the recruitment of 1000 cadets for Amotekun Corps in the State to bolster security across the State, and the process started last week.
Meanwhile, while addressing newsmen at its Monthly state-of-the-state address in Osogbo, TOM’s Executive Director, Professor Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, said employing security personnel should not be based on political loyalty but patriotism to the State.
“The sensitive nature of Amotekun Corps as a security outfit makes it paramount that we warn the Ademola Adeleke-led administration not to make recruitment into the Corps a political affair. We must ensure that only those with a passion for ensuring the security of lives and property are employed into the outfit”, he said.
While commending the state government for its plan to recruit into the Amotekun Corps and also into the Imole Youths Empowerment scheme, he stressed the need to allow diversity in the process with giving priority to any political party.
His words, “The plans to recruit into both organisations will not just provide short to long term empowerment for successful candidates, but it will also serve as a long term means of human capacity development in our State. Our vast population of young unemployed persons has already become a thing of worry for most concerned stakeholders in our society. Such massive recruitment is thus a welcome development
“However, as has noted in previous government recruitment of this nature, politics has the capacity to derail whatever good intentions government may claim to have”.
