Food, perfumes, 8 other things Nigerians plan to spend on for Valentine’s Day 2025 – Report

Nigerians are set to spend more on this year’s Valentine’s Day, defying economic challenges that have eroded purchasing power and driven prices to more than double, according to a recent survey by SB Morgen Intel.
Despite rising inflation dampening Valentine’s Day celebrations in previous years, consumer enthusiasm is increasing.

The survey, which covered respondents aged 18 to 65 across major cities such as Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, highlighted a sharp rise in participation.
According to the findings, 85.6 percent of Nigerians plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2025, a significant jump from 62.8 percent in 2024.
Conversely, those opting out of the celebration have dropped from 37.2 percent to 14.4 percent, emphasizing a notable increase in spending.
“A third of respondents plan to spend between N51,000 and N100,000, while a quarter intend to spend N10,000 to N50,000,” SBM said in its report titled Love in the Air: How Nigerian Consumers Are Driving Valentine’s Day Growth in 2025, released on Monday.
“Luxury spending has also increased, with nearly 5 percent planning to spend over N500,000, up from 1.59 percent in 2024,” it added.
The surge in spending is attributed to heightened enthusiasm and inflation, which soared to 34.8 percent in December 2024, compared to an average of 9 percent in 2015.
While inflation has strained household budgets, the survey found that 79.3 percent of respondents do not feel pressured to overspend. However, social media promotions play a significant role in influencing purchasing decisions.
