2024 Ranking – Super Eagles Rises to 36th in FIFA October

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has climbed to 36th place in the latest FIFA rankings for October. This progress comes after they earned 1503.29 points, mainly because of their strong performance in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. And also a major contribution to their rise was a 1-0 victory over Libya on October 11 in Uyo.

With this improvement, Nigeria has moved up to fourth place in Africa, leaving behind its previous position of sixth, now behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.

October was a busy month for international football, having about 32 World Cup 2026 qualifiers and 47 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers among a total of 96 matches, which included Nations League games and friendlies. These matches led to some changes in the FIFA rankings.

Argentina still remains at the top of the global rankings, but their lead over France (2nd) and Spain (3rd) has decreased. England is in 4th, Brazil in 5th, and Belgium in 6th, while Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) have moved slightly.

The top 10 is completed by the Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1), with Germany just outside in 11th place (up 2).

Other countries making progress include Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5), and Greece (42nd, up 6). Cameroon has also returned to the top 50, now at 49th (up 4). In Africa, teams like Equatorial Guinea (88th, up 6), Zimbabwe (117th, up 7), The Gambia (128th, up 7), and Botswana (140th, up 7) have seen significant improvements in their rankings.
