Ochin, Abor Eha-Amufu natives debunk alleged killings at Eha-Amufu as false alarms
…Council Chairman, commends Gov. Mbah on improved security, reassures the people
Natives of Ochin and Abor, both border communities in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu State have debunked the recent report circulating on social media, which claimed a daily carnage in Eha-Amufu, at the weekend, describing it as fake and a false alarm by mischiefmakers.
The report had alleged that a helicopter flew past the town, followed by attacks from Friday to Sunday, and that the military took casualties to hospital/mortuary.
But making the clarification when the Council Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Hon. Obiora Obeagu, and a combined team of security personnel, visited the areas on Monday, natives said the attack did not occur at Eha-Amufu. They explained that the attack happened in Nkalaeha in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where suspected herdsmen allegedly killed some individuals at the weekend.
“No, we did not witness any such incident here and I doubt that any member of this community could have originated such wicked, false alarm. Count us out,” a native who simply identified himself as Bernard, told the Chairman.
Addressing the people, Hon. Obeagu assured the people of Ochin, Abor, Eha-Amufu, and other border communities in Isi-Uzo of government’s maximum efforts for security of their life and property. He commended the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, for deploying security personnel and other resources to the flashpoint border communities in Isi-Uzo.
He urged the people of Eha-Amufu to remain peaceful and continue to cooperate with the security agencies posted to the area.
“As you already know, the Governor Peter Mbah Administration prioritised the security of lives and property from day one. In the same vein, he is paying extra attention to the border communities, hence the peace and stability we have enjoyed in Eha-Amufu and other border communities.
“Let me also advise peddlers of fake news about Eha-Amufu and Isi-Uzo to desist henceforth. Let me equally
remind the mischief-makers that it is a punishable offence under Nigerian laws to peddle fake news, more so on something as important as security.
“Members of the public, bloggers, and media houses are equally advised to verify information before sharing or publishing it to avoid spreading unnecessary panic and tension,” the Council Chairman stated.
