How Obi’s tweets ignited rift in Obidient movement” – Oswald

ABUJA – The Coordinator of Obidient Youth Ambassadors, Meche Oswald, has raised concerns over the fragmentation of the Obidient Movement and the Labour Party (LP) following a controversial Twitter post by Peter Obi, the 2023 LP Presidential Candidate.

In his post, Obi disassociated the Obidient Movement from the Labour Party, asserting that its members could align with various political parties while aiming for change in Nigeria.

However, This declaration has sparked fears of fragmentation within the once-vibrant movement.

Oswald issued a statement criticizing Obi for not seeking counsel before making such assertions, warning that they could embolden members to defect from the Labour Party, .

He explained that Obi’s remarks imply a freedom for Obidients to affiliate with any political party, which may have influenced recent defections.

According to him, some individuals who left the LP cited Obi’s words as a justification for their actions.

The internal struggles within the Obidient Movement have also been highlighted, with Oswald noting that the movement, once a spontaneous force for change, is now weakened and struggling to maintain relevance. He emphasized the need for unity and clarity in leadership, suggesting that Obi’s lack of communication with key figures like Barrister Julius Abure has contributed to the current fragmentation.

He said, “Upon scrutinizing the implications of Peter Obi’s statement, I am compelled to express my reservations regarding its potential consequences.

“I wish he had refrained from making that statement, or at the very least, sought counsel before sharing his thoughts.

“Obi has inadvertently created a perception among Obidients that they can affiliate with any political party of their choice. This has culminated in a fragmented movement, thereby undermining the movement’s cohesion and collective purpose.

“Most of the self-seeking, power-hungry individuals who were part of those that forced Obi into making that statement have started joining other political parties.

“Every right-thinking person will commend BarristerJulius Abure for holding strong and powerfully. The Labour party is waxing very strong under his visionary leadership.”
