    Ogun: 22-year-old to die by hanging for stabbing alleged sex worker to death

    An Ogun State High Court, sitting in Abeokuta on Wednesday sentenced a 22- year old Jamiu Malomo to  death by hanging for stabbing one Asisat Akande, an alleged sex worker to death.

    Malomo was convicted on a one count charge of murder.

    Delivering his  judgment, Justice O. Ogunfowora convicted Malomo for the charge preferred against him, saying that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubts and that the 22-year-old was guilty as  charged.

    Justice Ogunfowora held that the evidence presented by the prosecution was tenable and therefore sentenced Malomo, to death by hanging.

    “You are hereby guilty of killing Asisat Akande as preferred against you.

    ”You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on you”, he said.

    Earlier, during the trial the State Prosecuting counsel, Mr. A. M. Adebayo, Deputy Director Public Prosecution, said the convict committed the offence on July, 18, 2021 at about 9:30pm at Ori- Apata community, Oke-Aregba in Abeokuta.

    Adebayo, said the convict picked Asisat Akande who was a sex worker, from 3AD bar at Panseke area to his house for sexual pleasure.

    “After having carnal knowledge of the deceased, she demanded for N10,000 which was their agreement, but Malomo refused to give her the the complete money saying he had N8,000.

    “The situation led to an argument between him and the deceased which made the convict brought out knife from his pocket and stabbed her on the neck.

    “The stab resulted to the instant death of the deceased”, he said.

    He noted that Malomo was arrested by men of the Police at the 3AD Club in Panseke where he wanted to pick another girl for sexual pleasure.

    Adebayo however, said that the offence committed “contravened the provisions of section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code, laws of Ogun 2006”.

    Ogun Police: How Ex-AIG Odumosu’s Wife Was Kidnapped

    The Ogun State Police Command has provided details of how gunmen kidnapped the wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu from her residence in ArepoOgun State.

    Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the incident occurred in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area as the victim was returning home.

    According to Odutola, Mrs. Odumosu was approaching her residence when the assailants intercepted her Lexus Jeep. The gunmen then forcefully removed her from the vehicle and dragged her through a swampy area to an unknown location.

    “The divisional police officer has mobilized a team to comb the surrounding swampy bush area,” Odutola said, adding that local traditional rulers have been enlisted to assist in the search operation.

    “The Baale of Warewa and Maaba have been contacted to also deploy local security forces to the riverine area,” she stated.

    Two die, four injured in Ota-Idiroko road accident

    The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) on Friday said two persons died while four others sustained injuries in an accident at Iju, along Ota-Idiroko road.

    Mr Adekunle Ajibade, the Ogun West Zonal Commander of TRACE, confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota.

    He said the accident involving a Toyota Camry and a tricycle happened at about 9:30 a.m.

    Ajibade explained that six persons —- four male, one female and a toddler —- were involved in the accident.

    He said the Toyota Camry, with no registration number, wrongfully overtook and rammed into an incoming tricycle marked EKY 892.

    “This resulted into four persons sustaining various degrees of injuries.

    “The corpse of the two male persons who died had been deposited at the General Hospital in Ota, while the survivors are receiving treatment at the same hospital,” the TRACE official said.

    Ajibade then admonished motorists against wrongful overtaking, urging them to refrain from excessive speeding to avoid unnecessary loss of life during the ongoing ember months.

    He said the vehicle and tricycle involved in the accident have been towed off the road to enhance a free flow of traffic on the road.
