    Prominent Nigerians, including Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, attended the funeral prayers for the late Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sunusi, a revered figure in Kano, passed away at the age of 91 after a prolonged illness.

    The Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zahradeen, led the funeral prayers at the Emir’s Palace on Wednesday. Among the attendees were the NNPP Presidential candidates, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state.

    Other notable personalities present at the burial held at Gandun Albasa graveyard, included Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibri, and Nasiru Aliko Koki, who represented APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

    The late Sunusi was a prominent figure in the Emirate, having served as Wamban Kano and a senior counsellor under the late Emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

    He is survived by his wives and 35 children. (NAN)

    Emir Sanusi Appeals for Calm After Appeal Court Ruling in His Favor

    The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for calm and urged residents to resist any actions that could provoke unrest in the ancient city.

    The emir appealed in a viral video on Friday, following the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed his position in an ongoing legal dispute.

    Sanusi cautioned against attempts to instigate violence in Kano, noting that those who seek to disrupt the state’s peace will ultimately face the consequences of their actions.

    “As you all know, the Appeal Court has confirmed today that the Federal High Court has no jurisdiction over emirate issues. This judgment was expected, and those who initiated the case in court knew this all along,” he said.

    The monarch criticized individuals who influenced earlier judicial decisions and accused them of pursuing selfish interests aimed at destabilizing the state.

    “Even the judge who issued the initial order was aware of the limits of his jurisdiction. Those who influenced him to make that decision also knew the truth. However, for the past eight months, they have aimed to promote selfish interests and instigate unrest in this part of the country,” Sanusi said.

    Despite the provocations, he commended the people of Kano for maintaining peace.

    “Our greatest achievement is that the state has remained peaceful. There has been no violence or disorder. We call on everyone to continue maintaining peace and unity,” he said.

    The emir also emphasized the need for prayer and divine intervention in resolving the state’s challenges.

    “This battle is not ours but God’s. And God does not need anyone’s help. Let us keep praying for His guidance and intervention. May God protect us, and whoever seeks to ignite chaos in Kano, may that fire consume them instead,” he added.

    Sanusi appealed to residents not to engage in any retaliatory actions and to uphold the state’s long-standing reputation for peace and harmony.

    “To those who wish harm upon Kano or its peace, may they face the consequences of their wishes. They may attempt to provoke violence, but let us not respond to their actions. Let us not engage them in any way. Whoever questions God’s judgment will ultimately face the consequences of doing so,” he concluded.

    ‘Put Nigeria First’ – FG Responds to Emir Sanusi’s Criticism of Tinubu’s Reforms

    The Federal Government has responded to remarks made by Muhammadu Sanusi II, Emir of Kano and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), regarding the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

    Sanusi, speaking during the 21st Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Lecture in Lagos on Wednesday, stated that he would withhold economic advice from the government, citing personal grievances.

    “I have decided not to speak about the economy or the reforms, nor to explain anything regarding them. If I explained, it would only benefit this government, and I don’t want to aid this government. They’re my friends. If they don’t behave like friends, I don’t behave like a friend. So, I watch them being stewed, and they don’t even have people with credibility who can come and explain what they’re doing. But I’m not going to help,” Sanusi said.

    In a statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, acknowledged Sanusi’s right to express his views but criticized his decision to withhold insights, suggesting it reflected personal interests rather than a commitment to national progress.

    “It is pertinent to state that Nigeria is at a pivotal juncture where bold and decisive actions are necessary to tackle entrenched economic challenges. This administration has implemented transformative reforms not because they are easy, but because they are essential for securing Nigeria’s long-term stability and growth, as Emir Sanusi had consistently advocated,” Idris stated.

    He noted that the temporary challenges Nigerians face are the “necessary consequence of decades of irresponsible economic management,” a point Sanusi himself had previously acknowledged.

    Idris highlighted the progress made under the Tinubu administration’s reforms, such as the unification of exchange rates, which has increased investor confidence and bolstered foreign reserves. He also pointed to the removal of fuel subsidies, which has freed up significant funds for critical investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

    “Projections from respected institutions, including the World Bank, indicate an upward trajectory in Nigeria’s GDP, signaling that the economy is on the path to recovery,” Idris said.

    The minister expressed disappointment that reforms previously endorsed by global experts and Sanusi himself are now being subtly criticized. He urged the Emir to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians over personal grievances or partisan considerations.

    “Rebuilding Nigeria requires unity, focus, and sacrifice from all stakeholders. As a government, we urge esteemed leaders to refrain from rhetoric that undermines public trust. Instead, they owe it a duty to champion the collective goal of a prosperous Nigeria. This is a critical time for our country; what is needed is collaboration, not unnecessary distractions,” he added.

    Idris reiterated the administration’s commitment to economic inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity, calling for constructive dialogue with well-meaning stakeholders while prioritizing the interests of Nigerians.
