Annie Macaulay confirms divorce from 2Baba at Headies awards

Actress Annie Macaulay publicly confirmed her divorce from musician Innocent “2Baba” Idibia during the 17th Headies Awards ceremony held on Sunday night.

The movie star, who had been silent on the matter for months, finally reacted while co-presenting the award for Best Afrobeat Singer of the Year alongside Farooq Oreagba, popularly celebrated as the “King of Steeze” from the 2024 Ojude Oba festival.

While introducing herself on stage, Annie stumbled over her married name before quickly correcting it, signalling her return to her maiden name.

“Annie Idi… Oh! Sorry, Annie Macaulay. Hey, single ladies!” she said, prompting cheers and applause from the audience.

The confirmation follows signs earlier this year when Annie reappeared on social media in March — nearly two months after 2Baba announced their separation — and signed off with her full name, Annie Uwana Macaulay, notably dropping Idibia.

Annie and 2Baba, who have two children, officially ended their marriage in January 2025 after the singer publicly disclosed their split.

Since then, 2Baba has proposed to Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru and introduced her to his family and kinsmen in Benue State, fueling speculation about an impending wedding.

2Baba finds love again amidst divorce saga

Legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba has announced his plans to marry Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru, just 16 days after revealing his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia.

He made this known days after his appearance during a plenary session at the Edo State House of Assembly, where he created scenes amid his divorce saga.

The 29-year-old lawmaker has been fingered as the reason for 2Baba’s ending of his marriage of 12 years with Annie.

However, in a video shared on Instagram, 2Baba declared his love for Natasha, stating that she has nothing to do with his divorce from Annie.

He praised Natasha as a “young, brilliant, and amazing woman” and expressed his desire to marry her.
“Honourable Natasha has been dragged, called all sorts of names and has been labelled as a home breaker. She is a young, brilliant and amazing woman.

“She has nothing to do with what’s happening between Annie and I. But everybody is trying to rope her into everything. Yes, I love her. I want to marry her,”A he said.

Natasha is the Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing the Egor Constituency. She’s a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and advocates youth empowerment, education, and women’s rights.

Natasha responded to the news on Instagram, said: “Make your opinion count.” The development has sparked mixed reactions from fans and followers.

Tuface and Annie: The Love story that crumbled under fame, scandal

From the very start, Tuface Idibia and Annie Macaulay’s relationship seemed like the stuff of destiny, capturing the hearts of fans across Nigeria and beyond. But over time, it became clear that fame, personal challenges, and unresolved issues would take their toll. Public squabbles, accusations of infidelity, and a complex family dynamic were just some of the pressures that ultimately led to the breakup of one of Nigeria’s most talked-about couples.

The early dents in their paradise

When Tuface and Annie Idibia first came together, their love seemed perfect, like a fairytale. But over time, what appeared to be a flawless union slowly crumbled under the weight of unresolved issues, public accusations, and personal betrayals.

Barely two years and a few months into their marriage, Tuface, also known as 2Baba, was caught on camera kissing his baby mama, Pero Adeniyi.

Reports at the time claimed that the popular Nigerian superstar was cozying up in the VIP section of his Festac nightclub, Rumours, with the mother of his three kids, Pero Adeniyi.

Annie was said to have heard about what was happening at the club and decided to confront Tuface about it. She allegedly stormed the club but was diverted by the club’s management into a room where she was told her husband would join her shortly.

She was reportedly locked in the room for some time, and by the time she was allowed to leave, 2Baba and Pero had already ended their meeting. When Annie went into the room, she was locked in for a while, and by the time she was let out, the fun was over. Pero had left, and Tuface was about to leave.

Shortly after the incident, Tuface took to his Instagram to address the situation. His post read, “Our love does not have to make sense to you. Please go on with your perfect life and know the true story behind something before you judge and start making nasty comments based on an orchestrated story by some blog. You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”

He ended the message by professing his love for Annie, writing, “I love you till I die.”

Annie also responded, claiming that the ‘incident’ was a temporary distraction and denied going to the club to confront her husband, as the blogs had suggested

Her statement read, “I am aware of the photos circulating on the internet showing my husband and Pero Adeniyi. I want to state officially that I was not in that space at that time, and therefore, there was no confrontation between myself and Pero Adeniyi. Pero Adeniyi and this momentary indiscretion pose no threat whatsoever to my relationship with my husband. In fact, for the sake of our children, I do encourage cordial relationships with all parties involved. This year, my focus is solely on God, family, and my career, which doesn’t give me the luxury of paying attention to any distractions.”

She spoke about the many humiliations and embarrassments she had faced.

Tuface announces divorce (January 26, 2025)

On the night of January 26, 2025, Tuface released a statement via his Instagram, announcing their separation and impending divorce.

The musician promised to share more details soon, to tell his side of the story to his beloved fans, who he said deserved to know what had transpired between him and his estranged wife.

Shortly after, Tuface deleted the post, claiming his account was hacked. But within minutes, he backtracked, posting a video where he confirmed that his account had not been hacked and that the separation and divorce were real.

The announcement divided his fans and the couple’s supporters on social media, with many trying to figure out who the true victim was.

Over the following days, Tuface explained on social media that he hadn’t left Annie without reason. He shared a serious confession, stating, “Annie stood by me when I was living my life and having children everywhere, but that doesn’t mean she’s a saint. I stopped cheating on her after the last time I cheated and apologized. I’m a changed man now. I had to forgo my joy—having multiple women—for her out of love. Do you think I just left her for no reason? I am single and searching for True Love again. I know better than destroying Annie’s reputation on social media.”

Let’s choose empathy over drama – Ayo Makun (AY)

Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, who separated from his wife in 2024, reacted to Tuface’s separation on his X (formerly Twitter) page. He wrote, “Instead of casting blame in broken marriages that you know nothing about, why not focus on the reasons why the institution itself is under attack? No one goes in with a plan to fail. It’s troubling to see online in-laws and blogs reveling in sensationalism, often at the expense of those hurting. Real lives are involved—let’s choose empathy over drama and content. Some of you will never rest until you lead a fellow human to suicide.”

  • Brouhaha over 2Baba, Annie divorce saga

Brouhaha over 2Baba, Annie divorce saga

The news of 2Baba and Annie Idibia’s divorce has sparked a heated debate among Nigerian celebrities, with some slamming 2Baba for his insensitivity and others backing him for his decision.

2Baba and Annie made headline, Sunday, after the former confirmed that he has finally broken up with his wife of 12 years, Annie. Their union has been on trial since 2021, after the families of the couple engaged in a dirty ‘fight’ on social media, with the latter accusing her husband of disrespecting their marital vows by engaging in an illicit affair with his first baby mama, Pero Adeniyi.

However, 2Baba’s confirming their break-up sparked reactions on social media, yesterday, with many celebrities, including media personality, Toke Makinwa; reality TV star, Abiri Oluwabusayo aka as Koko by Khloe, and actress Mary Njoku, among others, slamming the legendary singer for his insensitivity, while others backed 2Baba for his action.

Makinwa expressed her disappointment with 2Baba for bringing their divorce saga into the public domain, saying he should be ashamed of himself.

In an instagram post, Makinwa wrote: “This is wrong at all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on. If you think she’s alone, let me tell you now that you’ll have to fight all of us.”

On her own part, actress Mary Njoku blamed 2Baba for announcing the separation at a time when Annie was already facing public criticism over her appearance in a reality TV show. She accused him of embarrassing his wife when she was at her lowest.

“Annie has a family. Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices.

But since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. It’s your choice. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you,” Njoku wrote on IG.

For reality TV show star, Khloe, the timing was wrong. She warned the singer that he would face not only Annie, but also all her supporters and friends as well.

“This period? Like this time? This season? Hell no. “Make me just not talk about anything right now because this is a prank. Fight Annie, fight all of us. Love is really wicked,” Khloe also wrote on IG.

Also, reacting, a businesswoman, Ifedayo Agoro said 2Baba had treated Annie badly for years and should not have made things worse by announcing the divorce publicly.

“First, they groom you, then you lose yourself, and then they dump you. I am so angry! I usually don’t talk about things like this, but this is disgusting behavior by this man.

“In a time when this woman is already being insulted, you had to say this? Knowing you’ve been embarrassing her publicly for years? Why now? Why make things worse for her?

“Never ever choose a man over yourself. No one is indispensable,”Agoro fumed.

Meanwhile, controversial actress , Nwachukwu Ifeoma Esther, who goes by the Instagram name, esthersky_77, blasted Toke Makinwa for calling 2Baba out over his action.

She said that she’s proud of the singer, adding “If 2baba said he’s done with Annie it means he is done. Annie is so t0x!c.”

Esther described Toke Makinwa’s comments as “gilbrish” adding “Charms have lost their efficacy. . No matter how long it takes. Charms go clear. So finally,” the actress wrote.

Also, a popular blogger Oluwatosin Damolekun, a.k.a Tosin Silverdam blasted Toke Makinwa, for dragging 2Baba, saying “all his female fans would fight with him for announcing his divorce publicly.” Tosin, however, questioned some people who alleged that 2Baba groomed Annie.

According to him, she saw that the singer had multiple baby mamas and still decided to marry him. He opined that the couple should be allowed to go their separate ways since their union wasn’t working again.

A check yesterday by Vanguard revealed that the singer had deleted all the divorce-related posts, including the video he made to announce the divorce. He had, in a controversial post on his Instagram page Sunday, announced his divorce from Annie, his wife of 12 years.

This is even as it was rumoured yesterday that Annie, who’s currently featuring in the reality TV show, Young, Famous & African Season 3 on Netflix was rushed to a rehab amid their divorce saga.
