Kumuyi, Adeboye win Yoruba Persons of the Year Award

The Founder of Deeper Life Ministry, Pastor Kumuyi, and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, have won the 2025 Persons of the Year Award of Irohinodua.

In a statement at the weekend, Irohinodua, the first pan Yoruba news online established in 2010, said the decade-old award is given every year to the most distinguished Yoruba personalities.

The media group said the two clergymen jointly won the 2024 Yoruba Persons of the Year.

A statement by the Editorial Board of the online media stated that Kumuyi and Adeboye, throughout the year 2024, distinguished themselves in the service of God, preaching love and promoting peace across the world.
The group said there is no other person(s) of Yoruba heritage across the world in 2024 that controlled so much influence in the spread of love and peace throughout the entire globe as the two leaders.

“The year 2024 was a fragile era in Nigeria. There were threats of violence and social unrest, and ethnic hatred and fury took centre stage. Even across the world and in Nigeria, the space was riddled with violence, hate, vengeance and human mystery. This was compounded by the fallout of the National elections in the previous year. These two individuals with their words and deeds continued to profess love, peace and brotherhood, not only in Nigeria but across the world,” the statement signed by Mrs Feyisike Adeoye on behalf of the media outfit stated.

Irohinoodua said Nigeria in particular witnessed an upsurge in violence and disaffection, driven by faith and ethnicity, saying Adeboye and Kumuyi rather stirred the whirlwind of harmony in every part of the world where their religious institutions have strongholds.

The group noted that while others used religion to advance hatred and parochial political and ethnic goals, Kumuyi and Adeboye converted their multiple platforms to the advancement of peace and good neighbourliness.

Irohinoodua said though the two individuals came under vicious and violent attacks from their opponents, their responses were measured, cultured and propelled by Godliness.

Adeoye said even though the two hold no political positions, their stars continue to shine all over the world to the glory of the Yoruba nation.

  • Interfaith dialogue essential for Nigeria’s peace, says CAN

Interfaith dialogue essential for Nigeria’s peace, says CAN

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has emphasised the urgent need for interfaith dialogue as a vital tool for promoting peace and reconciliation in Nigeria.

He made this statement during the 2025 United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week Conference, which was themed ‘The Love of the Good and the Love of the Neighbour,’ with the sub-theme ‘Peace for Our Time.’

The conference gathered religious leaders and advocates dedicated to promoting understanding and cooperation among diverse faiths.

Archbishop Okoh pointed out the unprecedented challenges confronting both Nigeria and the world, such as social inequalities, climate crises, and violent extremism. He articulated that the commitment to interfaith harmony is now more vital than ever, emphasising that the principles of love, compassion, and mutual respect are essential for healing divisions and building bridges within communities.

The Archbishop called for a collective effort to promote religious literacy, enabling citizens to recognise the shared values that unite them, rather than focusing on divisive issues. He further stressed the importance of dialogue in Nigeria, a nation known for its diversity, asserting that it is the only viable path to achieving sustainable peace.

Okoh urged participants to reject false teachings that incite enmity and to champion the rights of others, emphasising that safeguarding the rights of one group ultimately protects the rights of all.

He stated, “The message of love of the good and love of the neighbour is universal. It transcends all borders, religions, and cultures, resonating with every faith tradition in the world.

“At a time when our world faces unprecedented challenges—ranging from social inequalities to climate crises, from violent extremism to the erosion of trust between communities—our commitment to interfaith harmony is more critical than ever.

“To deepen our engagement with one another, we must continue to promote religious literacy among the citizenry, highlighting the common values that bind us together rather than those issues that divide us.”

He continued, “Therefore, we must do everything within our power to resist all false teachings that use religion to create enmity among our people in Nigeria.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria recognises the imperative of dialogue for peace and sustainable development, which is why the leaders of the Association collaborated with the leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) to establish the Nigeria Interreligious Council (NIREC).

“NIREC must be celebrated as one of the greatest efforts to foster peace and harmony in Nigeria.

“Together, through the power of love, we can build a brighter and more united future for all.”

  • Get connected with God, by Funmi Komolafe

Get connected with God, by Funmi Komolafe

Brethren, it’s the beginning of another month.   It’s time to ask; the popular question “ how far? “.

Asking this question is a form of self-assessment.  Ask yourself, how far have I gone in my relationship with the LORD?

Has anything changed in your spiritual life between now and January?  Have you devoted more time to prayers, have you been fasting, what else have you been doing to improve your relationship with God.  Not your Pastor but you alone can answer that question.  I urge you to do so honestly.

The second step is to ask yourself, is there any sign that something is about to change?  If the answer is in the positive, then you can begin to look toward the day of testimony.

Let me give an example.  Perhaps there is a woman out there whose monthly period has ceased as  it was with Sarah.   Genesis 18 vs. 11 ( KJV) : “ Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well striken in age; and  it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women”.

Perhaps doctors have told you that the eggs you  produce during ovulation are so weak that  they can never be fertilized.  With such a report,  if you are not strong in faith, you would give up on yourself.

Or are you a man whose medical test results  indicate  that you have zero sperm count.   That is enough to make a man write   himself off but not for a true Christian.

As a Christian,  such reports  it is indeed the test of  our faith.

What then do we do?  As  a Christian, you should  remember that God gave you a command.

Genesis 1 vs. 27 & 28:  “ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,  and  over every living thing that moveth upon the earth”.

Jesus went further to assure us that with faith, we cannot pray in vain.

Verse 24 of Mark 11: ‘ Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them”.

A major hindrance to our miracle is doubt.  Some of us pray with doubts in  our  hearts.  Our lips pronounce  the prayers but the heart doubts.

May the merciful God deliver us from the spirit of doubts in the name of Jesus.

Doubt weakens our faith and if unchecked may make one to  disconnect  with God and anyone that is disconnected from God cannot be connected to a miracle.

God told Abraham that he would be a father of many nations but the first step to the fulfillment of the word of God was the birth of the promised child Isaac. Though he had Ishmael  born to him by Sarah’s maid, Hagar.

You want to ask, why didn’t God give Sarah multiple  babies?

The answer is  found in Psalm 115  vs. 3 “ But God is in the heavens; he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased”.

From Isaac that he gave to Abraham and Sarah as an only child,  a nation’s arose.

Our intimacy with the LORD would make us hear   from him.   It makes  us get the attention  of the God.

Beloved, if the physical signs that you see do not   give  you cause to be cheerful, the solution is not to be downcast or lose faith.

Let your spirit remind you   of the word of God in Jeremiah 32 vs. 27: “ Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?’.

Let your faith make you to answer that   there is nothing too hard for the LORD.

With this thought, you are moving closer to your miracle.

Perhaps you have been going through some form of sickness that doctors have described as “incurable”.    Medical science is limited but God is unlimited.

Nothing is too hard for the God of all flesh.  Your body is flesh.  So God can heal you.

The child you want to have is flesh.  The God of all flesh can give you children.

Have you been waiting for  a marriage partner?   The one you are expecting is flesh.  God can connect both of you and the marriage would take place.

Brethren, you need to take testimonies seriously.   Cast doubts away from your mind, when listening to testimonies.  Believe that God that gave the testifier a miracle is available to also give you   a testimony.

Brethren, if you spent 2024 down cast because  your miracle didn’t manifest, you can’t afford to remain that way in 2025.

You must radiate the joy of the LORD even  when  you are troubled.   Humanly speaking, this seems impossible but with  the love of Christ in you, it is possible.

With the joy of the LORD in you, brethren, you are an overcomer.

Mockers   would wonder while your radiate so much joy despite the challenges that  they identify with you.

The  joy of the LORD in you is also  a weapon to chase the demons out of your life.

Couples trusting God for the fruit of the womb, need to be united in prayer.

If your partner’s faith is not strong enough, then make sure you remain connected  with God in prayer.

Brethren, a miracle may be delayed  because  of the forces of darkness but it may also be delayed because you haven’t taken the right steps.

At other times, what we call a delay, is a test of our faith.

Beloved, it is only God that can open a closed womb.   It is God that can change the zero sperm count to multiple count but you need to be connected to  JESUS.

No matter what we are going through, God is available to bring us from sorrow to joy.

God is able to move us from lamentation to celebration  only if you remain connected in prayer.

Brethren, you cannot be guilty of praying too much.  There is nothing like over-praying.

The more you pray, the more you get connected to God.

January is gone, we still have 11 months to go in 2025, resolve to be connected to the one that  answers prayers.

Those who do not pray, may never testify.

May God help us all to remain connected to Him.

Our God is the helper of the helpless.

No wonder the Psalmist said in Psalm 46 vs. 1: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”.

God is not far from you; you only need to be connected.

    Shalom!

  • Northern Christians enjoy better life under Tinubu’s govt — CAN Chairman

Northern Christians enjoy better life under Tinubu’s govt — CAN Chairman

Rev Yakubu Pam, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the North, says Christians in the northern part of Nigeria are enjoying a better life under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Pam also said Christian persecution has reduced in the North since Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

The CAN chairman said this days after commending the Tinubu administration for demonstrating inclusive governance.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the Christian leader said Christians still suffer persecution, but the rate at which it happens has reduced.

Pam believes Christians are no longer discriminated against when they need to buy land to build churches in the North.

He added that the forceful conversion and forced marriage of young Christian girls has reduced in the region.

He said, “There’s still persecution of Christians going on. It is relevantly better under this administration, but it is still ongoing. I am not saying it has stopped, but it’s very much better.

“I’ve talked about the lack of giving us land for building churches in some areas or states. I’ve also talked about taking our young girls getting forcefully married and forceful conversion, all of that I mentioned in my press conference in Kaduna.”

Despite his initial position on Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim presidency, Pam commended the president for demonstrating ‘reasonable inclusiveness.’

Pam said this while addressing journalists on Saturday, January 25, after the meeting of the Northern CAN National Executive Committee (NEC).

He said, “For me, the most important thing is an inclusive government; as far as they have done Muslim-Muslim ticket, we have also seen reasonable inclusiveness.

“But left for us, we will say ‘yes, let’s have Christians in certain positions like vice president and other positions to reflect our diversity.”

However, he maintained that Northern Christians would like to take the position of vice president in 2027 if the president decides to replace Kashim Shettima.
