Born into a musical family from Eruwa in Oyo State, Nigeria, Adepoju and his brothers, Saminu and Lasisi, were introduced to drumming at a young age by their father, Chief Ayanleke Adepoju.

As a descendant of the Yoruba Ayan lineage, which is traditionally associated with master drummers, Sikiru honed his craft early on.

As a teenager, he toured and recorded with the Inter-Reformers Band, the group led by Nigerian Juju music legend, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey.

His talents eventually brought him international recognition, leading to collaborations with some of the world’s finest musicians.

Adepoju’s major breakthrough came when he joined Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum, a group that blends percussion styles from different cultures.

Their self-titled album, Planet Drum, won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 1991, making Sikiru Adepoju the first and only Nigerian to win a Grammy at the time.

His success did not stop there. In 2009, he was part of Mickey Hart’s Global Drum Project, whose title album won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Adepoju’s journey to global recognition began in 1985 when he moved to the United States to perform with O.J. Ekemode’s Nigerian All-Stars. Shortly after, he met Babatunde Olatunji, a legendary Nigerian percussionist, and joined his group, Drums of Passion.

Through Olatunji, he was introduced to Mickey Hart, the drummer of the iconic rock band, Grateful Dead, which marked the beginning of a longstanding collaboration

The nine-minute-long worship anthem debuted at The Experience 2024 before its official release on January 3, 2025. The song quickly gained traction, sparking a viral dance challenge across social media platforms.

In a statement introducing the study plan, YouVersion highlighted its focus on the power of praise as a spiritual weapon: “In this 7-day devotional, Dunsin Oyekan examines the mysteries of Praise as the believer’s weapon. Through Old and New Testament examples, be encouraged to wield this spiritual weapon in both joyful and challenging moments. We would like to thank Integrity Music for providing this plan.”

  • GraceFM launches new music album

    GraceFM launches new music album

In a world where the marginalized are often overlooked, Mrs. GraceFM Paul Nkem, an entrepreneur and gospel artist, is making a difference through her annual empowerment programs and charity outreach initiatives. She has continued to demonstrate her commitment to societal impact by empowering the less privileged through her skill acquisition initiative and charity foundation. Launching her Album titled “God’s Kingdom on Earth”, Mrs GraceFM donated a wheelchair to a physically challenged man at the event held recently at Ikeja, Lagos.

The album, a five-track composition featuring songs such as Grace, I Bring My Praise, God’s Kingdom on Earth, Showers of Blessings, and Arise and Shine, was unveiled to a captivated audience.

Speaking at the launch, the guest minister, Pastor Kehinde Abiodun, encouraged the artist to stay true to her divine calling. He urged her to focus on creating meaningful content, avoiding the distractions of “noisemakers” in the industry, and reminded her that great things often have humble beginnings.

Mrs. GraceFM shared her motivation, saying, “It’s not about having all the money in the world but about making an impact. Adding value to people brings me fulfillment more than anything else. Touching lives and pursuing my musical career are my purpose and where I find true joy.”

She emphasized her vision to establish God’s Kingdom on earth through acts of kindness and community support. “You don’t need to have everything to make a difference. By helping those around you, feeding the poor in your community, and supporting the challenged, you are establishing God’s Kingdom on earth. Acts of kindness are also a way of preaching the Gospel,” she added.

The event also featured remarks from Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Agigbotafe, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Wealth Creation and Employment. Hon. Akinyemi lauded the initiative, describing it as an exemplary display of philanthropy and community enrichment. He noted that the program aligns with his ministry’s goals of fostering wealth creation and employment opportunities.

A significant highlight of the event was a three-day training program held from January 21–24, 2025. Participants were equipped with practical skills in organic food processing, paint-making, and catering services.

“Information practiced becomes knowledge for life,” Hon. Akinyemi remarked, emphasizing the importance of applying the skills learned.

One of the most emotional moments of the event was the presentation of a free wheelchair to Mr. Kehinde Abdul Waheed, a printer and training beneficiary, enhancing his mobility and independence. This act of kindness highlighted the transformative power of generosity.

Another beneficiary, Miss Abiola Adedeji Janet, traveled from Abeokuta, Ogun State, to participate in the training. She expressed her gratitude, saying the program fueled her passion for catering and business. “I learned a lot about cake baking and soap-making, which has inspired me to pursue my dreams. I deeply appreciate the organizers for this opportunity,” she said.

  • Maryjane Benson talks about her new movie “The Counselor” and marriage

Maryjane Benson talks about her new movie “The Counselor” and marriage

Nollywood actress Maryjane Benson has opened up about her latest movie, The Counselor, shedding light on its intriguing storyline and her role in the film.

Speaking about the movie, she shared, “I played the role of Jane, a loyal friend to a woman in love with a mama’s boy. His mother insisted that before they could get married, she had to serve as their counselor. This led to endless battles, with me always standing by my friend, advising and defending her against the mother-in-law’s interference. It was a war of wills until, in the end, the mother-in-law finally gave in, leading to a happy ending.”

Beyond her career, Maryjane also spoke about her personal life, revealing how she met her husband and her thoughts on marriage.

“My husband and I met in Lagos in 2014 while he was on vacation in Nigeria. We became best friends, and after years of friendship, we finally tied the knot at Ikoyi Registry on July 29, 2023. We then had our traditional wedding in Abuja on August 4, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. It was a celebration of love that I will never forget. As for lessons learned, I’m still enjoying my marriage and the blessings that come with it,” she said.

Addressing the idea that marriage is not an achievement, she offered her perspective: “Marriage is an achievement only when it fulfills God’s intended purpose—companionship, love, unity, trust, and mutual support. It goes beyond just the wedding ceremony; it is a lifelong commitment to uphold the vows made on that special day.”

Maryjane Benson has featured in several notable films, including Immortal Vows, New Money, My Siblings and I, and many more. With The Counselor now added to her filmography and her personal life thriving, she continues to shine both on and off the screen.

  • I’m tired of my ass trending instead of my career — DJ Pretty Play

I’m tired of my ass trending instead of my career — DJ Pretty Play

A Nigerian female Disc Jockey (DJ), Princess Ntuk, professionally known as DJ Pretty Play is a drop dead gorgeous with disconcerting curves and edges accentuated by a bulbous behind many would spend millions to acquire. But according to her in a recent video shared on Instagram she broke down in tears complaining that her ass is getting in the way of her career.

She bemoaned what many would consider a blessing, begging people to focus on her DJ career and talent instead of her ass, which according to her,  trends in the social space far more than her career.

She wails, ” Please I’m a professional DJ and very good at what I do but what seems to interest you guys is my ass. Guys, please I’m tired. Every time I wake up what trends about me is my ass, not my talent or DJ career. Even when I’m demure and not shaking my ass and just being me and quiet, all what you guys talk about is my ass. Why? Please I’m tired of this. Am I not a good DJ? I’m a professional DJ, the attention should be on my craft.”

“Even the wedding I performed yesterday the topic on social media was about my ass and not my performance. Why? Because the topic was my ass it trended greatly and people shared and reshared it many times but when it is about my mixes and my work it doesn’t trend.

What you guys should know is that I’m married. I’m somebody’s wife. It is not nice to be talking about a married woman’s ass. Why are you people sharing another man’s ass and trending with it,” she said sobbing and getting down on her knees to beg further.

Grammy Awards 2025: nominees, date, time and how to watch

The 67th Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, despite the recent wildfires that have devastated parts of the city.

However, this year’s ceremony will incorporate a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting wildfire relief efforts and assisting music professionals affected by the disaster, according to a statement from the Recording Academy.

The late Quincy Jones, a music industry icon, will be honored with a special tribute. Jones, who passed away in November at the age of 91 due to pancreatic cancer, was a legendary producer and musician with an astounding 80 Grammy nominations and 28 wins. The Recording Academy has promised a “star-studded salute” to celebrate his contributions to music.

Wildfire Relief Efforts Integrated into the Show

The Grammys will reflect on the impact of the January wildfires, but organizers emphasize that the event will still celebrate the past year in music.

Several major industry players, including Universal Music Group, Sony, Spotify, BMG, and Warner Music Group, have canceled their usual Grammy week events to redirect focus toward relief efforts.

The ceremony will include a tribute to firefighters and emergency responders who played a key role in battling the wildfires.

However, Ben Winston, the show’s executive producer, reassured fans that the event remains a celebration of music, with planned performances proceeding as originally envisioned.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. echoed this sentiment in a recent interview, stating that canceling the Grammys would not have been beneficial. Instead, the Academy chose to use the platform to raise awareness and funds for wildfire victims.
