Video: ‘God used Pastor Jerry Eze for me says wife of suspended Catholic priest

Dora Chichah, wife of suspended Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Daniel Oghenerukevwe, has disclosed details of how she met her husband and how faith played a pivotal role in their union.

Rev. Oghenerukevwe, from the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Delta State, was suspended after entering into a marriage in Dallas, Texas, without completing the formal canonical process to be released from his priestly vows.

The Diocese revealed that while the priest formally requested release from Holy Orders on November 30, 2024, he failed to provide the required documents before proceeding with the marriage. Photos from the wedding quickly went viral.

Speaking from Dallas, Texas, US in a live testimony session at Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International Church, Dora recounted her journey of faith and prayer that led her to meet Daniel.

Catholic missionary priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, reposted the video of Dora’s testimony recently on Facebook.

The single mother of three described praying for over nine years for a life partner, adding that she joined the church in 2020.

“In July 2021, Pastor Jerry said the Lord has heard you; he said the Lord allowed all that has happened happen to take you to your wealthy place. He is your salvation. In your waiting time, He will build your character,” she began.

Dora detailed how Eze’s prophetic declarations encouraged her over the years, especially when he spoke to women praying for marriage.

In 2024, I heard God clearly to relocate from where I was to Dallas, Texas,” she said.

In Dallas, Dora reconnected with Daniel, whom she knew from her hometown. She shared how both had been seeking God’s guidance:

“He told me stories about how he has been praying for four years for discernment in his vocation. And in my own case, I had been praying too. He said he had been fasting for three months, asking God to give him the woman for him,” Dora revealed.

Within three months, the couple went through marriage counselling, followed by a traditional wedding, a court marriage and a white wedding at Streams of Joy Church.

Dora’s testimony did not address Daniel’s priesthood status, but the video featured photos of their wedding. Meanwhile, a woman claiming to be Daniel’s biological sister, Mary Okanatotor, defended the marriage on social media.

Mary stated, “He did not do a secret marriage as he wrote to the Diocese to inform them of his decision.”

Presidency proposes stricter sanctions on airlines over flight delays, cancellations

The Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit, CRDCU, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Bala Usman, has proposed a review of the draft policy on sanctions for airlines to the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

Usman argued that, given the increasing number of flight delays and cancellations and their impact on affected passengers, revisiting the policy was necessary.

She made this recommendation during the Q1–Q3 2024 Performance Assessment Report on implementing presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables.

Disclosing this via its Twitter handle, CRDCU stated that Usman also recommended revising the current target of 224 days for resolving customer complaints.

She said it was unrealistic and needed urgent amendment to align with global best practices.

The statement reads: “The CRDCU led by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, this morning continued its engagement with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, to review the Q1–Q3 2024 Performance Assessment Report on the implementation of Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables.

“The first engagement of the day was held at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, where the Special Adviser met with the Minister, Festus Keyamo; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Kana; the Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku; and other Heads of Departments and Agencies under the Ministry.

“The Special Adviser commended the Minister and leadership of the Ministry for ensuring progress within the sector. However, she expressed concerns with the Ministry and its agencies over their submission of incomplete information, which hinders the independent assessment of progress towards achieving specific deliverables. She also highlighted the Ministry’s stakeholder and customer engagement shortcomings, a key deliverable requiring urgent improvement.

“The Special Adviser recommended that the Ministry and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, revisit the draft policy on sanctions for airlines. She described this as critical given the increasing number of flight delays and cancellations and the impact on affected passengers. She further recommended revising the current target of 224 days to resolve customer complaints, describing it as unrealistic and needing urgent recalibration to align with global best practices.

“Following the presentation of the Ministry’s performance scorecard for Q1–Q3 2024, the Minister expressed his appreciation to the Special Adviser for her diligent work and guidance.

“He assured her that the Ministry would address the highlighted challenges and intensify efforts to improve performance and service delivery in the aviation sector.”

NBA apprehends fake lawyer impersonating its member

In its bid to rid the profession of quacks, vigilant members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Udu Branch, Delta State led by David Omage Esq and others yesterday apprehended a fake lawyer, Olubuwe Ossai Silas, who has been impersonating Barr Simon Sabuke.

Vanguard reports that Silas was caught red-handed at a business centre at Orugbo plaza, Ovwian, while transplanting a scanned lawyer’s seal on a document and preparing legal documents using lawyers’ names.

He was quickly apprehended while attempting to fight the lawyers, who overpowered him and called in police from the Ovwian Police Division.

Celebrating the feat, the Chairman of the NBA Udu Branch, Edmund Odohisi, noted that he had reported the incident and filed a formal complaint at the Ovwian Police Station, where Silas is currently cooling off.

According to Odohisi, “The Divisional Police Officer has assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated and used to deter others who engage in similar acts.

“This incident highlights the NBA’s zero-tolerance policy towards quacks and infiltrators in the legal profession. As Odohisi emphasized, The full length of the law must be exhausted in this instance.”

“The NBA Udu Branch has been proactive in addressing impersonation issues, previously warning against the unlawful use of NBA car stickers by non-lawyers.

“With this latest development, the branch reinforces its commitment to upholding the integrity of the legal profession.” The Chairman added.

Simon Sabuke, Esq., in a chat with Vanguard, said that a senior lawyer called him to come urgently because someone was impersonating him.

“When I got there, I saw three of my senior Colleagues with another man. They asked him if he knew me, but he said no; they now told him that I was Simon Sabuke.

“He attempted to fight Omage, but we overpowered him and called the police, who came to take him away.” Sabuke narrated.

A source revealed that the husband of the deceased who after the incident went to the Abagana Divisional Police Station to report the incident and present himself to the Police, has been detained at the police facility.

  • NLC rallies Nigerians against 50% telecom tariff hike

NLC rallies Nigerians against 50% telecom tariff hike

Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday rallied Nigerians to reject the 50 per cent telecommunication tariff hike approved by the federal government through the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.

According to NLC, the 50 per cent tariff hike approval, “at a time when Nigerian workers and the masses are grappling with unprecedented economic hardship, is a clear assault on their welfare and an abandonment of the people to corporate fat cats.”

In a statement titled “50% Telecom tariff hike: Another burden too harsh!” NLC’s President, Joe Ajaero, said: “The NLC expresses its unequivocal condemnation of the Federal Government’s recent approval, through the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, of a 50 percent increase in telecommunication tariffs.

This decision, coming at a time when Nigerian workers and the masses are grappling with unprecedented economic hardship, is a clear assault on their welfare and an abandonment of the people to corporate fat cats.

“Telecommunication services are essential for daily communication, work, and access to information. Yet, an average Nigerian worker already spends approximately 10 percent of their wages on telecom charges. For a worker earning the current minimum wage of N70,000, this means an increase from N7,000 to a staggering N10,500 per month or 15 percent of his salary—a cost that is unsustainable.

“This hike exemplifies the government’s apparent ease in prioritizing corporate profits over citizens’ welfare. It is shocking that the government approved this 50 percent tariff increase for telecom companies within a month, yet took nearly a year to approve the recent minimum wage for workers, despite the rising cost of living and inflation eroding purchasing power.

“This glaring disparity underscores a troubling reality. The government appears more aligned with the interests of wealthy corporations than with the needs of the workers and citizens it is meant to serve.

“We must ask: When will the government stand for the people it swore to protect? When will the National Assembly rise to its responsibility and hold the executive accountable for policies that blatantly undermine the welfare of the majority? When will the common man heave a sigh of relief in Nigeria?

“We call on the government, the NCC and the National Assembly to stop the implementation of this ill-advised hike to allow a reasonable conversation around the hike. If the dialogue agrees on the need for the hike, then, we can all seek a more humane increase and definitely not this 50 percent hike.

“The NLC calls on all Nigerian workers and masses to reject this unjustifiable tariff hike. We urge citizens to prepare for collective action, including the possibility of a nationwide boycott of telecommunication services, to compel the reversal of this punitive increase. This is a fight for our dignity, our rights, and our survival as a people.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress remains resolute in defending the interests of Nigerian workers and the masses. We will not allow the people to bear the brunt of policies that further entrench poverty and inequality. Together, we will do our best to resist this injustice and demand that government prioritizes the interests of its citizens over corporate interests.”

He said, “Mr President committed N8.5 billion to construct this road. The Aguma Palace — Market Road is N22 billion, and it will be commissioned in May this year.

  • Countries offering fast-track citizenship through marriage to foreign nationals

Countries offering fast-track citizenship through marriage to foreign nationals

Some countries offer a fast-track path to citizenship for foreigners who marry their citizens. This shortens the usual residency requirements and helps spouses gain citizenship more quickly. While the rules vary, marriage is often accepted as a valid reason for granting citizenship or residency. This also comes with benefits like the right to live, work, and travel freely. Fast-tracking citizenship through marriage is a good option for those wanting to build a life in a new country.

Here are five countries where marrying a local could quickly change your nationality in 2025.

    Spain

In the past, marrying a Spanish citizen automatically granted citizenship. However, since 1975, direct citizenship after marriage is no longer possible.

Marriage still makes the citizenship process faster. Marrying a Spaniard makes it easier and quicker to get residency and citizenship. Normally, it takes 2 to 10 years of residency to qualify for citizenship. If married to a Spanish citizen, you only need one year of legal residency. However, you may need to renounce your original nationality unless you’re from a former Spanish colony. With Spanish citizenship, you can travel to 183 countries without a visa, live and work anywhere in the EU, and vote in Spain.

Step-by-Step Process: First, register your marriage with a notary in Spain. Then, apply for a residency permit to live and work in Spain for five years. There are two options: the EU Family Member Card for those with legal status and sufficient income, or Family Arraigo for those without legal status but with a clean criminal record.

After getting your residency, live in Spain with your spouse for one year. The year starts only after your residency permit is approved. Once you’ve lived together for a year, apply for Spanish citizenship. You’ll need to pass the Spanish language test (A2) and the CCSE cultural exam.

    Argentina

Argentine citizenship can be obtained in two ways. The first is Citizenship by Option, which is available to children of native Argentine citizens as stated in Article 1, Law 346, and Article 2, Decree 3213/84. The second is citizenship by naturalisation, which requires two years of continuous residency in Argentina, verified by the National Directorate of Migrations. This residency requirement is waived if you are married to an Argentine citizen or have Argentine-born children. However, siblings of Argentine citizens cannot apply for citizenship through this route.

To apply, you must be at least 18 years old. You need a legalised birth certificate, either with an Apostille or international legalisation if required, and a valid Argentine ID (DNI) or passport. You also need police clearance certificates from your home country and any other countries where you lived for more than six months in the past three years. These certificates must be apostilled. A non-criminal record certificate from Argentina’s National Registry is also required. This involves fingerprinting, and the results are sent by email.

You must provide proof of residency in Argentina, such as utility bills, a rental contract, or a domicile certificate from the local police. You also need to show proof of income through pay stubs, monotributo receipts, or an income certificate from a public accountant. If you have Argentine children, you must include photocopies of their birth certificates and a certificate from the Immigration Directorate.

You need to have basic Spanish skills to understand court proceedings and take the citizenship oath. Two specific forms, provided during the process, must also be completed.

The entire process usually takes one to 1.5 years. Applicants must appear in person at three key stages: submitting the application, processing the criminal record, and taking the citizenship oath. A legal advisor must be appointed to manage the application. After completing the process, you can apply for your DNI and Argentine passport.

    Brazil

If you and your Brazilian partner marry, you can start the process for Brazilian citizenship within a year. You can marry in Brazil, but it may be easier to marry outside the country due to Brazil’s complicated bureaucracy. If you marry abroad, you will likely need to pay a fee to the Brazilian consulate to process your documents. After submitting the required paperwork, you will get a Certificate of Marriage Registration. This certificate confirms your marriage is recognised under Brazilian law. You will need to bring the marriage documents to Brazil to continue the process and apply for a permanent residence visa.

you need to apply for permanent residence at a Federal Police station in Brazil, which may require travelling there. If you do not speak Portuguese, getting help from a lawyer or a fixer is recommended. Due to Brazil’s bureaucracy, professional help is often important.

After being married for one year and holding permanent residence, you can apply for citizenship by marriage. The naturalisation process may take 12 to 15 months. A good lawyer can help reduce delays. Lawyers in Brazil often work with a fixer, or “despachante,” to handle the paperwork. While many expats find fixers helpful, be careful, as some may not act in your best interest.

    Italy

Italian citizenship through marriage or civil union is governed by Law n. 91 of 1992. A non-Italian spouse can apply after two years of marriage or civil union if living in Italy, or three years if living abroad. This period is shorter if the couple has children under 18 or adopts children. Same-sex civil unions, recognised in Italy since 2016, are treated the same as marriages.

The application fee is €250, paid by wire transfer. Since December 4, 2018, applicants must show B1-level Italian language proficiency from an approved institution.

To start, the Italian spouse must be registered with AIRE (if abroad) and have their marriage/civil union recorded at the consulate and the local comune. The citizenship application is submitted at the consulate (if abroad) or Prefettura (if in Italy).

The process has two steps: filling out an online form and making an appointment to submit documents and sign the application. Applicants need a marriage certificate transcript, criminal background checks from all countries lived in since age 14, a certified copy of their foreign birth certificate, and B1-level Italian certification from an approved institution.

    France

Foreigners can apply for French citizenship by declaration or by decree, depending on their situation. Citizenship by birth, marriage, or ascendancy is through declaration. Citizenship by naturalisation is through decree.

Foreigners married to French citizens can apply for citizenship by declaration if they meet certain conditions. If living in France, the marriage must last at least four years, with three years of residency in France together. If living abroad, the French spouse must be registered in consular records. The application can be made after four years of marriage. If neither condition is met, the requirement is five years. The marriage must be registered in the French civil registry.

Applicants must have a valid residence permit (unless from the EEA or Switzerland), no expulsion order, and a community of life with the French spouse. They must also have B1-level French language skills and no criminal record. Irregular residency periods do not count toward the required residency.

To apply, submit a completed Cerfa form, photos, a tax stamp, proof of identity and residence, a marriage certificate, and other documents. These include proof of the French spouse’s nationality and evidence of language proficiency. All documents must be in French or with certified translations.
