Industrial unrest looms in 110 FGCs as Labour issues strike notice

There are indications that academic and other activities at the 110 federal government colleges, FGCs, commonly known as Unity Schools, may be disrupted soon following a notice of strike by Organized Labour over poor welfare among others.

Under the aegis of the the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, Organized Labour, expressed disgust that for past two years the federal ministry of education has bluntly refused to address the poor conditions of workers.

In a 21 day ultimatum issued to the government, ASCSN vowed to order workers in the institutions to down tools and commence a nationwide strike in the government failed to address it demands.

Other demands included “disarticulation of Junior Secondary Schools from the Senior Secondary Schools to create vacancies in the Directorate level, payment of transport allowance and DTA to Federal Education Quality Assurance Service FEQAS, staff, and the need to drastically reduce exorbitant medical fees charged members of staff by the Health Management Organisation, HMO, appointed by the Federal Ministry of Education under the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS.”

ASCSN in a statement by its Secretary General, Joshua Apebo, the Association said it was tired of requests since 2023 through series of letters to the Federal Ministry of Education to convene a meeting to address welfare issues affecting its members in the 110 Unity Colleges throughout the Country, among others.

In the letter of ultimatum to the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja dated Thursday, 23rd January 2025, ASCSN lamented that all efforts since 2023 to bring the Management of the Federal Ministry of Education to the negotiating table to discuss welfare matters affecting its members in the 110 Unity Schools and the FEQAS throughout the country had been treated with contempt.

According to the Union, “the outstanding welfare issues include payment of promotion, salary, and elongation arrears; payment of allowance to Education Officers displaced from the Unity Schools in the North-East, payment of 1st 28 days in lieu of hotel accommodation as stipulated in the Public Service Rules.

“There are also issues of regularization of appointment of PTA teachers, implementation of the White Paper which stipulates that Units of the Association in the 110 Federal Unity Schools should be members of the School Based Management Committees, SBMCs, so that they could be part of the decision-making processes in the Schools, scholarship for children of Education Officers in Colleges where their parents teach in line with the directive of former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

“We have also consistently demanded for the resumption of Quarterly Meetings with the Union where welfare issues affecting members of the Association in the headquarters of the Ministry, those in the 110 Federal Government Colleges, and those in FEQAS throughout the country can be discussed and resolved in the interest of industrial peace and harmony but all our gestures for dialogue have been rebuffed.

“Since all efforts to bring the Federal Ministry of Education to the dialogue table have been frustrated and since the national leadership of the Association could no longer contain the restiveness of its members in the Unity Colleges and FEQAS, no further notice would be required after the expiration of the 21 days ultimatum issued on Thursday 23rd January 2025 before Trade Union actions start in the Unity Schools and FEQAS.“All stakeholders are urged to prevail on the Federal Ministry of Education to embrace dialogue now instead of waiting for the industrial actions to start only for them to begin to plead with the Union to sheath its swords.”

Kyle Walker’s wife to ‘put things behind’ after husband’s move to AC Milan

Kyle Walker’s wife, Annie Kilner, has expressed her readiness to embrace life in Italy following her husband’s loan transfer from Manchester City to AC Milan.

Serious doubts once clouded their marriage after Walker, an England international, fathered two children with former Love Island contestant Lauryn Goodman.

Kilner reportedly initiated divorce proceedings at one point. However, the couple spent Christmas together, signaling efforts to rebuild their bond.

Now, they are stepping away from the Premier League’s intense spotlight.

Walker, already in Italy, is preparing to join Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah at San Siro. His family will join him once formalities like securing a work permit are completed.

A source told the Daily Mail, “This is a good opportunity to put things behind them and make a go of it as a family unit. It will be a challenge in a new country, but they are willing to give it a go.”

Kyle Walker reportedly hopes to don the No.32 jersey, famously worn by David Beckham during his loan stint with the Rossoneri.

Although he cannot play in the Champions League group stage, his Milan debut might coincide with a highly anticipated derby against Inter on February 2.

Troops dismantle 13 illegal bunkering sites confiscate 300,000 litres of stolen products

As part of its ongoing crackdown on oil theft, troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) have dismantled 13 illegal bunkering sites and confiscated over 300,000 litres of stolen crude products across the Niger Delta.

The anti-crude operations, conducted from January 20 to 26, 2025, in Edo, Delta, and Rivers States, resulted in the demobilization of four boats, deactivation of more than 150 locally made ovens, and the arrest of 15 oil thieves. The operations were carried out through a series of raids and interceptions across the states.

In Edo State, troops discovered a large pool of stolen crude oil, estimated at 252,000 litres, at Ugo Community in Orhiomwon Local Government Area. Further investigation led to the recovery of a pumping machine, hose, and pipes.

In Delta State, a 30,000-litre capacity DAF Tanker Truck was intercepted while siphoning crude from a pipeline in a bush. The truck had already siphoned over 15,000 litres of stolen crude before it was apprehended.

In Rivers State, the operations resulted in the confiscation of over 10,000 litres of stolen crude, particularly along the Imo River corridor. Troops also discovered an illegal refining site along Odagwa, where a pump-action gun was recovered during a follow-up operation.

Additionally, three illegal refining sites were dismantled in a cluster at the Obiafu Oil Field in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, where 10 cooking drums, two rolls of hose, and eight reservoirs were seized. In Abalama Community in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, concealed jerrycans filled with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) were uncovered.

The Nigerian Army’s efforts to curb oil theft and pipeline vandalism have yielded positive results. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, reassured that the days of criminal elements masquerading as economic saboteurs are numbered. He also advised these criminals to embrace legitimate means of livelihood or face a renewed onslaught.

This operation was conducted by troops from the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other sister services, demonstrating the army’s commitment to protecting the nation’s oil and gas infrastructure.

Obanikoro faults Adefuye’s support for impeached Lagos speaker,Obasa

A former  Nigeria ambassador to Ghana, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, has  faulted a statement  made by an APC chieftain ,Sen.Anthony Adefuye, expressing support for the impeached speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa .

Recall that Obasa (APC-Agege 1)was  on Jan.13 removed  by lawmakers over alleged misconduct ,and was replaced by the then deputy speaker ,Mrs Mojisola Meranda.

Obasa, who spoke for the first time on his impeachment on Saturday , said his removal did not follow due process.

Addressing his loyalists in Ikeja ,Obasa said he remained the  speaker of the House and would soon resume his legislative duties.

He also denied the allegations of corruption levelled against him by the lawmakers.

Adefuye, a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Anthony Adefuye, has  expressed support for the embattled former speaker.

In a recent interview,Adefuye said that he  agreed with Obasa that he was illegally removed.

“What he is saying is that he was illegally removed and the procedure was faulty and I agree with him.”he said.

Reacting to Adefuye’s interview,Obanikoro a two time minister, said the APC chieftain  was careless to have made the statement .

“The statement of Sen. Adefuye on the removal of the former speaker Mudashiru Obasa, is very unfortunate, childish and inconsequential.

“Senator Adefuye’s comment shouldn’t have come up, as leaders, if there are  serious issues of this magnitude, rushing to make press statement or personal statement on such issues is unbecoming of a statement

“Since GAC as a unit as not made any prounouncement on the subject matter, it is irresponsible of any member of that privileged body to go public and make comments on an issue that is as sensitive as that,” the senator told Newsmen on Sunday.

Obanikoro, also a member of GAC ,said it was important to  respect hierarchy in any organisation.

” Moreso our leader, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria waded in on the matter, so i believe nobody should come out individually to express an opinion based on privileged status”,he said.

Chukwueze scores late-winner to give AC Milan stunning win over Parma

AC Milan turned jeers to cheers on Sunday as two goals in stoppage time gave the seven-time European champions a stunning 3-2 win over Parma in Serie A.

Trailing to what looked like being Enrico Delprato’s winner for Parma heading into added time, Milan triumphed thanks to strikes from Tijjani Reijnders and Samuel Chukwueze, sending previously frustrated fans delirious with joy.

AC Milan move up to sixth, five points behind Lazio who sit fourth and host off-form Fiorentina in Sunday’s late match.

Nigeria forward Chukwueze’s bundled finish completely changed the atmosphere around the San Siro and gave Sergio Conceicao’s team a huge boost ahead of a massive week.

Milan travel to Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday gunning for direct qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League before their local derby with Inter Milan next weekend.

“I think we showed the right mentality, fighting to the end and the way we changed this game is crazy,” said Netherlands midfielder Reijnders after his 11th goal of the season.

“This game was important for us to get back where we belong. Now we have to continue.”

Fan discontent had threatened to bubble over in the 80th minute when Delprato forced home on the rebound after Mike Maignan did brilliantly to keep out Drissa Camara.

Supporters turned towards the directors’ box and ironically applauded Milan’s management, after Milan’s hardcore ultras watched the majority of the match in silence, only raising their voices to again demand that American owners RedBird sell the club.

The loudest cheers heard from home fans before Reijnders’ 91st-minute equaliser, slotted home from Yunus Musah’s fine through ball, came moments before when Strahinja Pavlovic headed in what he thought was the leveller before it was rightly ruled out for offside.

Unfortunate Parma were left with nothing from an excellent performance which deserved more but meant Fabio Pecchia’s team stay a point above the relegation zone.

“When you play like that at the San Siro and you leave with a defeat there’s going to be disappointment but there’s also awareness of what we did because I saw a lot of good stuff today,” said Pecchia.

“A performance like that can only serve us well for the future.”

Inter are at Lecce on Sunday evening hoping to halve the six-point gap separating the champions from league leaders Napoli, with Roma at fellow mid-table outfit Udinese.

  • Lagos commissioner assures Lagosians of Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to grassroots development

Lagos commissioner assures Lagosians of Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to grassroots development

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso has assured residents of dividends of democracy to the grassroots as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration continues to unveil new projects across local governments and local council development areas.

Omotoso, made the remark at a media stakeholders’ forum in Ikeja, noted that the New Massey Street Children’s Hospital project has reached an advanced stage and would be the biggest pediatric facility in West Africa, saying that the facility will be set for commissioning later this year.

The commissioner mentioned that other projects in the health sector, such as the 280-bed General Hospital in Ojo, the Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ejinrin, and infrastructure upgrades at Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos General Hospitals, would also expand the resources available to residents for top-notch medical services.

“This year, the present administration’s vision is to build on the gains of Y2024 through the commissioning of projects that would impact communities, especially at the grassroots,” Omotoso said.

Therefore, he called on young entrepreneurs to take advantage of the funding support provided by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, LSETF, and other initiatives of the Lagos State Government by applying for loans and grants to boost their trade.

Omotoso noted that many startups have become stable and profitable through support from the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, LSETF, and other agencies of the Lagos State Government that provide financial support to growing business entities.

Speaking on the benefits derived from tourism, Omotoso stated that Lagos would continue to explore initiatives in the sector to boost revenues, attract foreign exchange, and position Lagos as a genuinely competitive global destination.

“This year, we are focused on making significant progress in revitalizing cultural, religious, and recreational infrastructure across the State. Therefore, we will sustain efforts to restore the historic Elemoro Palace in Ibeju-Lekki and the Princess Erelu Kuti Tomb, commemorating one of Lagos’ most prominent historical figures,” he said.

While maintaining that more initiatives propelled by the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda would be unveiled in Y2025, Omotoso assured that the Sanwo-Olu administration would not abandon any ongoing project in the State.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to media men for the publicity given to the Sanwo-Olu administration’s giant strides, and he called for more support from community newspapers because they have gained prominence in creating awareness at the grassroots.

“There will be more of such media engagements this year. We appreciate feedback from the media because you stay among the people who rely on you to bring the government’s attention to their needs,” Omotoso said.

  • Divorce from Melinda my biggest regret – Bill Gates

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has reflected on his divorce from Melinda Gates, describing it as “the mistake I most regret.”

In an interview with The Times, the 69-year-old billionaire admitted the separation was a deeply challenging experience but noted that he feels “more cheerful now.”

The couple, who announced their split in May 2021 after 27 years of marriage, finalised their divorce in August of the same year.

Despite the emotional toll, Gates acknowledged the profound connection he shared with Melinda, saying, “There’s something extraordinary about spending your entire adult life with one person. The shared memories, the depth of what you’ve accomplished together, and having children—it’s all quite special. When Melinda and I met, I was already fairly successful, but not outrageously so—that happened during our time together. She stood by me through it all.”

Bill revealed his aspiration to emulate his parents’ 45-year marriage with Melinda, adding, “I encouraged Melinda to be a bit calmer than my mother was, but we were both quite driven. I spent more time with the kids than my dad did, but the ratio was still 10:1, with Melinda doing most of the parenting. We had a wonderful time.”

The pair met in 1987 when Melinda joined Microsoft, and together they built a life that included co-founding the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

However, their divorce marked a turning point, with Melinda choosing to step away from the foundation—a decision that Bill found particularly hard to accept.

“When we divorced, it was incredibly difficult. Then she chose to step away from the foundation, which I found disheartening,” he said.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the split, Bill described it as one of his greatest failings.

“It has to be at the top of the list. There are others, but none that compare. The divorce was miserable for both Melinda and me for at least two years,” he shared.

Despite their separation, Bill and Melinda have worked to maintain an amicable relationship while co-parenting their three children—Jennifer, Rory, and Phoebe—all of whom are now adults.

  • PDP Crisis: Feb NEC meeting shaky as Wike, Govs Forum Chair, Bala Mohammed, flex muscles

PDP Crisis: Feb NEC meeting shaky as Wike, Govs Forum Chair, Bala Mohammed, flex muscles

shaky as efforts to reconcile feuding factions have failed to yield the desired results.

Specifically, the forum is expected to address all contentious issues in the party, but the war of attrition among its stalwarts is not abetting.

The party is walking on quicksand with every step it takes towards resolving internal crises.

One of the thorny issues expected to be treated at the planned gathering, which may not be resolved is the controversy between Federal Capital Territory,FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

Both leaders have been engaged in a war of words over the fate of the party.

While reacting to Wike’s criticism of his opposition to President Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, the Bauchi State helmsman had described Wike as a liability to the party.

In a statement by Mukhtar Gidado, his media adviser, Mohammed said Wike is a “transactional politician” and a “liability” in the Tinubu administration.

“His recent media outburst was yet another reminder of his transactional approach to politics, where personal ambition eclipses loyalty, principles, and collective interests,’’ Mohammed added.

Wike, on his part, fired back, urging the governor to stop giving an excuse for his “lack of capacity to provide leadership as chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum”.

He said: “It is funny that a known fairweather politician like Bala Mohammed was the one calling someone else a transactional politician.

“First, Governor Bala Mohammed is holding the position of Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum out of political greed, because by convention and practice, the position should be held by one of the PDP Governors in the South. Reason being that the immediate past Chairman of the Forum was from the North, same as the PDP National Chairman.’’

Also, nothing has been heard about the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led National Reconciliation Committee after it last held a meeting with the party’s NWC on October 23, 2024.

The body was saddled with the responsibility of reconciling feuding party leaders, members and groups. No time frame was announced, but many expected progress to be made before the NEC meeting.

“The committee certainly has fresh fires to put out,” a party insider told Sunday Vanguard.

A NEC member, who also spoke to Sunday Vanguard on condition of anonymity said: “I cannot confirm that the NEC meeting, which has been postponed three consecutive times, will be held as scheduled in February.

“Damagum and his sit-tight choir are already shopping for another excuse to postpone the meeting. Because we are having all of these troubles at various levels, it remains to be seen if reason would prevail.’’

Another bone of contention is the crisis in Rivers State chapter, which pitched Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara against each other.

This particular issue has divided the National Working Committee ,NWC.

A recent judgment by Rivers State High Court affirming the leadership of a faction of the party loyal to Fubara was welcomed by some NWC members.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Ologunagba, National Treasurer, Ahmed Yayari, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, accepted the judgment.

Ologunagba, who issued a statement stating this position said:”The NWC of the PDP acknowledges receipt, considered and hereby accepts the judgment of the Rivers State High Court which in Suit No.

PHC/2301/CS/2024 nullified the ward, local government and state congresses of our party in Rivers State conducted on July 27, August 10 and August 31, 2024, respectively.”

    Damagum

In a chat with Sunday Vanguard, he said: “As of today, Rivers State chapter of our great party is firmly under the leadership of Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor and his executive.

“As a law-abiding party, we implore Ewor and his team to unite behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara to deliver on his promise of good governance to the people of Rivers State. At the national level, we will give them the needed support to succeed.”

However, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, and some elected officials believed to be sympathetic to Wike do not share this notion.

For instance, Deputy National Publicity, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who belongs to Damagum camp, countered Ologunagba’s declaration with a disclaimer.

Abdullahi accused the party’s spokesman of allowing “sentiments to becloud his sense of judgement” on issues.

He said: “The NWC did not accept the judgment in River State, recognising the Ewor-led ex-co. That is not true. The NWC has not sat since September last year. This is subject to your verification. I wonder where he will now say the NWC sat and adopted wholly, or accepted the verdict, recognising the Ewor-led state ex-co in River State.”

    Anyanwu, Ude-Okoye

Amid the power struggle, the position of National Secretary is still a subject of litigation. A High Court as well as a Court of Appeal gave judgement recognising Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate occupant.

However, Senator Anyanwu, who has approached the Supreme Court to challenge his ouster, insisted that by virtue of his pending case at the Supreme Court and his application for a stay of execution of the orders of the two courts, he remains in office.

While the Damagum group accepted his argument, Ologunagba and his colleagues as well as the party’s Board of Trustees,BoT, disagreed.

    Elected deputies

The party’s elected deputies are not left out of the crisis as they appear to have pitched their tent with Damagum.

Their spokesperson, Comrade Timothy Osadolor, took matters to another level when he urged those opposed to Damagum to either recognise his leadership or resign and leave PDP.

He said:”This is no longer the time for a blame game. All have sinned. From the BOT chairman who endorsed an opposition governor, to candidates who negotiated and supported other party candidates, to NWC members and leaders who lost their polling units.

“We must all come down from our high horses, forget pride for now and join hands with Illya Damagun to reposition this party back to winning ways.

“Court distractions and media de-marketing of the PDP must stop forthwith. You do not need to like the officers. The party is more important. If you want to resign and go, be a proper opposition, do not remain here and cause crises.” He further added that Damagum would remain in office until December 2025.

We’ve not borrowed a dime since 2023 —Delta govt

Delta State government has said it has not entered into any borrowing relationship with any institution, saying that it had not borrowed a dime since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori took over governance.

The Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, who disclosed this at a press conference in Asaba on Friday, noted that the state remained, in terms of financial terms, the strongest financial state standing in this country.

He emphasized that contrary to reports by an online news medium, “this state has not entered into any borrowing relationship whatsoever, whether partnership, individual, corporate, bank, local, national or international.

“We have not borrowed a dime since this administration took effect on the 29th of May, 2023. I can state categorically in any forum I found myself, that Delta State remains, in terms of financial terms, the strongest financial state standing in this country.

“I say so with every emphasis because I know the state’s finances, and I say that we are clearly the strongest financial state in Nigeria.

“I can stand this debate at any point in time because I know the balances as I speak to you today. I know the efforts that are being made by this administration.

“We stand categorically, heads up, to state that this administration has not borrowed a dime since 29th of May, 2023. We have paid so much in terms of construction, we have made sure that all debts are being paid down as seriously as we can.

“We have also improved in terms of contractual relationships with our contractors. Before now, it is difficult for us to give our contractors advanced payments.”

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, described Oborevwori as a man of impeccable integrity who has demonstrated a lot of transparency in the running of the affairs of the state.

  • Overcoming stubborn challenges, by Funmi Komolafe

Overcoming stubborn challenges, by Funmi Komolafe

Brethren, let’s congratulate one another for the Grace to witness the last Sunday in January 2025.

In a couple of days, it would be the end of January and 2025 would be 11 months to go. That’s stating the obvious but we shouldn’t take life for granted.   Some that shouted Happy New Year as you did are now six feet below either because their times to return to God or some wicked people have cut their lives short.

Whatever situation you find yourself, give thanks to God. He is the giver of life and it has pleased him to keep you alive.

Today, we’ll discuss, Stubborn challenges. What do we call stubborn challenges and why?

If we go by the definition of stubborn, it refers to a situation that is difficult to move or remove.

When a Christian refers to a challenge as stubborn, it means that the person has done everything humanly possible without any solution.

If a couple have been married for years, undergoing all sorts of medical tests and treatment, with no child to show for it let alone conception, the couple would likely give up.

Others may resort to prayers, moving from one church to another without any positive result.

Stubborn challenges could lead to frustration.  It is often a test of one’s faith.   Stubborn challenges

If not well handled may cause one to derail emotionally or even spiritually.

Inability to handle stubborn challenges have led some to the witchcraft coven, yet, the problem would remain unresolved.

As a Christian, you must never allow stubborn challenges, to overcome you.  Rather, you need to violently attack it spiritually and see it give way.

Let’s consider the story of two women, Sarah and Rachel that went through stubborn challenges.

The first is Sarah.   The Bible describes her as a beautiful woman such that Abraham had to lie that she was his sister. Twice he lied to save his own life because he knew that other men would want to have her.

Genesis 12 vs. 11-13 (KJV): And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou are a fair woman to look upon:

Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me but they will save thee alive.

Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee”.

However, despite her beauty, she had a challenge.

Genesis 11 vs. 30: “ But Sarai was barren; she had no child”.

Abraham was a righteous man that walked with God and lived his life in accordance with the word of God.  James 2 vs. 23 said of Abraham: “ And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God”.

This simply tells us that Abraham was a man that prayed regularly yet his wife was barren.

At a point a frustrated Sarah called on her husband, to go into her maid, and that was the beginning of insubordination, jealousy and even hatred in a hom

Genesis 16 vs. 4: “ And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes”.

Sarah got to the point of frustration because she had concluded that it would never be possible for her to have a child.

In the case of Rachael, she got to the point of frustration and confronted her husband, Jacob.

Genesis 30 vs. 1 ( NIV): “ When Rachael saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister.  So she said to Jacob, “ Give me children , or I’ll die”.

Verse 2 tells of Jacob’s reply: “ Jacob became angry with her and said, “ Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children”?

Rachel turned to man instead of God and she was disappointed. Besides, as Jacob’s favourite wife, she failed to realize that if Jacob had his way, she alone would be the mother of all his children.

In both cases, we can see that frustration leads to jealousy, hatred   and unnecessary squabbles.

The good thing is that the two women eventually had children when God intervened.  They both became mothers at God’s own time and they were gifted with special children.

What these two women passed   through is quite similar to what many people are going through today.

Often times we turn to human beings for solutions and when medical science fails, we begin to turn to God.

Thank God for his mercy that endureth forever.

If God should act like human beings, many would never overcome challenges of life.

When we are confronted with stubborn challenges like delay in childbearing, delay in getting married, financial stagnation, sickness or any other challenge, the way to overcome is to become prayerfully violent.

To be prayerfully violent is to pray at all times and to fast if the medical condition of the person permits.

Our Lord Jesus told us how to deal with stubborn challenges when his disciples could not cast out lunacy in the life of a young boy.

The disciples asked the LORD why they couldn’t cast out the demon and set the boy that was being tormented by the devil free.

The reply of Jesus is found in Matthew 17 vs. 20&21 ( KJV) : “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall  be removed; and nothing  shall be impossible unto you.

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting”.

Jesus mentioned, Faith, Prayer and Fasting as the keys to overcome stubborn challenges.

Sarah lost faith,. That  was why she told her husband to go into her maid.  She showed lack of faith again when the Lord visited her and Abraham and told them they would have a son.

Genesis 18 vs. 10-12: “ And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son.  And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

Beloved, overcoming a challenge is not a tea party; it is a spiritual war that can only be won with the Lord of one’s side.

For the Lord to be on your side, you too must be on the LORD’s side. You must be prepared to give up something to take something.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons, many Pastors direct their members to go on fasting and prayer at the beginning of the year.

They are simply telling us to prepare  to overcome a stubborn challenge.

If you prayed, fasted, obeyed God,  offered Praises and gave thanks in 2024 and the challenge remains, then you must realize that you are dealing with a stubborn challenge and the way to overcome is not to give up.

To overcome, one must be determined to subdue the flesh with prayer and fasting. If the challenge remains, you cannot afford to relax in prayer.

The more you pray, the more you attack the challenge with the backing of the Holy Spirit and before you realize it, when you least expected, the testimony would manifest.

By the Grace of God as you put in more efforts in prayer and fasting, that stubborn challenge would soon become a testimony in Jesus name.

Remember Jesus reigns over all challenges.

No challenge started with you and none would end with you but you can prayerfully terminate that challenge in Jesus name.

    Jesus is LORD!
