My most hurtful experience – Stan Nze

Award-winning actor, Stan Nze has opened up in a recent interview on how a simple media interview turned out to be a very hurtful experience In his life.

Recounting the experience, he said: “I granted an interview sometime after I got married, and the interview was supposed to focus on my work. However, I realized they were not even talking about the movie; instead, it was more about my personal life. They were trying to dig for a headline. I was on set, and they were shooting upstairs. When they stopped shooting, we would start the interview.

During the break, the cameraman mentioned a question he had been meaning to ask: “Your marriage is recent, and people are saying you married an older woman.” For my response, I reiterated many things I had seen on blogs. The next thing I knew, I was trending with the headline: Why I Married My 43-Year-Old Woman. I was shocked and wondered, “How did we get here?” From there, other blogs just picked it up and ran with it”

Prof Yusuf Ali SAN tasks governments to pay maximum attention to education

Kuliya of Ilorin Emirate and Professor of Law Practice, Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, has counseled stakeholders that there is no substitute for Education, noting that it is in the best interest of Nigerian governments to pay maximum attention to the sector.

The senior lawyer, however, said that the government alone cannot fund education, calling on corporate bodies, individuals and citizens to consider other interventions in the sector to help mould the country’s future leaders.

The legal giant spoke with Journalists on the sideline of the inauguration of a twin Lecture Theatre in the Faculty of Law named after him by the management of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko-Irese, a privately owned institution in Irepodun local government area of Kwara state.

Ali expressed delight that he was honored without any financial contribution from him to the project but in recognition of his disposition and contributions to education development.

He says, “There is no substitute for education, and leading knowledgeable people is more straightforward than ignorant people. When people are ignorant, there is no lie that will work, but when people are educated, it’s difficult for them to be cheated, and it’s also difficult for them to be led by the nose.

” So it’s in the interest of the government to ensure that they pay maximum attention to the issue of education, especially the funding.”

But having said that, Ali explained that ”education has gone beyond government funding education, we need other interventions from corporate bodies, from individuals, from other citizens and other people can intervene. So it’s mixed grilled”, he said.

Vice Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University, Professor Francisca O. Oladipo, said the twin lecture theatre was named after the legal luminary to inspire the institution’s undergraduates, particularly the law students, to attain greater heights like him.

“Each time our students walk past that road, they see that name, they remember him, and they want to be like him. It inspired them to want to think like him, especially the Law students. They want to attain what he has been able to attain. So those are the two significant motives behind today’s events.

“And it also means sustainability; we constructed everything ourselves using the laterite blocks, the ones they called mud blocks used by our fathers in those days, and everything was done not by a contractor, even the metal work, for the roofing we used wood. There used to be a huge tree there; that place used to be a waste dump, so it also means waste to wealth”, she said.

In his address, the founder of the university, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi also acknowledged that Prof. Ali’s unwavering dedication to education, justice, and the empowerment of young minds aligns with the vision and mission of establishing the university.

“We are proud of the strides TAU has made in its quest for academic excellence, and today’s commissioning represents another significant chapter in that journey,” he said.

  • Where to invest N1 million as a Nigerian in 2025

Where to invest N1 million as a Nigerian in 2025

Before investing in Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy by GDP and the most populous country on the continent, it’s essential to understand that the country’s economy is diversified, with a growing services sector and ever-changing government policies that can encourage or discourage investment.

Understanding this, whether as a seasoned investor or a beginner, can help you make informed decisions and achieve your financial goals.

Having these in mind, here are some areas where you can invest N1 million as a Nigerian in 2025 and be certain to get a positive investment.

    Equities

According to experts, the best place to invest N1 million in 2025 would be in oil and gas sector stocks; and insurance sector.

These sectors have proven to be a notable exception due to the remarkable positive outcome despite challenging economic conditions. However, no investment is 100 percent guaranteed.

    Agriculture

Agriculture in Nigeria is one of the most promising investment opportunities for both local and international investors. Investors can explore areas such as crop farming (cassava, maize, cocoa, soybeans, rice, and palm oil), poultry, aquaculture, and snail and livestock farming, which are in high demand locally and internationally.

The increasing demand for this agricultural produce makes it an investment that will yield positive outcomes no matter the challenging economic conditions or government policies.

    Renewable Energy

With the incessant grid collapse bringing darkness all over the country, Nigerians are beginning to seek an alternative that can guarantee a 100 percent power supply without excuses for collapse. Invest in renewable energy especially solar panel manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.

    Financial Services

With the growing population of citizens who find the bank time-consuming and irrelevant, especially among the illiterate and rural areas, Nigeria’s financial services sector is a good place to invest N1 million in 2025.

Financial services such as digital banking, micro-lending, and the popular Point of Sale (POS) business are attractive spaces for investors looking to capitalize on financial technology advancements.

These investment areas have little risk attached and can be achieved with N1 million in 2025.

  • Sinner beats Zverev in straights sets to retain Australian Open title

Sinner beats Zverev in straights sets to retain Australian Open title

A clinical Jannik Sinner swept past Alexander Zverev to retain his Australian Open title Sunday and cement his status as the world’s dominant player, becoming the first Italian to win three Grand Slams.

The 23-year-old came through a tense battle between the world’s top two players 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena, raising his arms in the air and looking to the sky in celebration.

In doing so he became the first Italian, man or woman, to win three Grand Slams, surpassing Nicola Pietrangeli’s two.

The victory also thrust him alongside Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only men to successfully defend their Melbourne Park titles this century.

But it proved more misery for Germany’s Zverev, who remains one of the world’s best players never to taste Grand Slam glory, falling short once again in his third big final.

Ice-cool Sinner proved to be a tower of mental strength in Australia, with his defence coming against the backdrop of an ongoing doping case after he twice tested positive for traces of the steroid clostebol last year.

Hanging over his head has been a World Anti-Doping Agency appeal against his exoneration, with the global body seeking a long ban.

A hearing is scheduled at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for April.

But he cast all the worries aside to notch a 19th career title and extend his incredible win streak to 21 matches.

Last year, Sinner needed five sets to tame Daniil Medvedev and win his first Grand Slam, but it never looked like going the distance this time.

He opened with a statement ace and won his first two service games to love, with Zverev struggling to get himself into the contest.

The German fought back to save two break points and hold for 2-2, serving his way out of trouble.

He began to find his radar, taking four points off the next Sinner serve in a game that went to deuce twice as the rallies built.

    – Racing clear –

But the dam finally burst in the eighth game.

Zverev saved three break points but had no answer to a fourth when he was beaten by a blazing passing shot to slump 5-3 behind.

Sinner took the set in 46 minutes and kept the pressure on in the second as cracks began to appear in his opponent’s game.

The Italian has a phenomenal ability to turn recovery shots into momentum-changing ones and he raced 15-40 clear on the Zverev serve at 1-1.

Once more, the second seed dug deep to cling on.

From then on they couldn’t be separated and it went to a tiebreak where Sinner got a lucky net cord that dribbled over to break for 5-4 and he streaked to a two-set lead.

Sinner has won all four tiebreaks he’s played in Melbourne and 16 from his last 18.

Zverev smashed his racquet in frustration at the changeover, and it didn’t get any better in the third set, worn down by the relentless Italian.

Sinner broke for 4-2 when Zverev sent a forehand long and there was no way back for the increasingly disillusioned 27-year-old.

Zverev came into the clash with a 4-2 record over Sinner, but all of those wins came before the Italian won a Grand Slam or rose to world number one.

Sinner won eight titles last year, including the US Open and season-ending ATP Finals, and was the first player since Federer in 2005 to go through a season without a defeat in straight sets.

  • I’m not desperate to be Nigeria’s president – Peter Obi

I’m not desperate to be Nigeria’s president – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has criticized the state of leadership in Nigeria, adding that he is not desperate to be Nigeria’s president.

Speaking to graduating students, Obi encouraged them to embrace a spirit of service, emphasizing that effective leadership stems from a commitment to driving positive change rather than personal ambition.

“All of this is to inspire you to ignite the change and provide support,” he said. “It’s not about saying, ‘I want to be in charge, I want to do this, or I want to do that.’”

Addressing claims of desperation, Obi clarified: “When people say I’m desperate, I say, ‘No, I am not desperate to be Nigeria’s president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work because it can work.”

He urged Nigerian youths to help usher in the “right leadership that the country needs for development.” Citing economist and Nobel laureate James Robinson, Obi noted, “Last year, Robinson said that Nigeria is a country that knows what to do to prosper but refuses to do it.”

The former governor likened the country’s situation to allowing drivers who have already reached their destinations to continue steering the vehicle, warning that such leadership would inevitably lead to losses.

“You cannot let people who have passed their time or reached their destinations drive you. That is what you need to help reignite. Use what you have to help us change society. Don’t become part of the problem,” Obi said.

He further challenged the youth to rise above the failures of past generations, stating: “You are victims of Nigeria’s situation because our generation and the one before us refused to do what was right. Now we are all suffering for it.”
