SOKOTO—Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has urged the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON, to extend the payment deadline for the 2025 Hajj by two weeks.
Acting Executive Secretary of the agency, Ladan Ibrahim, made this request while providing an update on the agency’s preparations for this year’s Hajj.
He emphasised that an extension would allow more prospective pilgrims complete their payments before the final deadline.
Ibrahim expressed concern that many intending pilgrims, especially those from rural areas, were struggling to meet the payment deadline.
“With the extension, more people will be able to complete their payments in time, ensuring that no one misses out,’’ he said.
NAHCON allocated 5,216 Hajj slots to Sokoto State, and the acting executive secretary highlighted the need for additional time for intending pilgrims to settle their payments.
He said: “In the past, we were allowed to make payments, even after Ramadan. With a brief extension, we are confident that all allocated slots will be fully subscribed.’’
At present, only 1,700 intending pilgrims have made their initial deposits.
On preparations, Ibrahim stated that the agency was about 70% ready for the pilgrimage, adding that it had secured accommodation in Mecca and Medina, finalized catering services, and arranged comfortable camp facilities for the pilgrims.
He also said Sokoto State had already remitted over ¦ 5 billion to NAHCON, covering the initial deposits and other expenses.
According to him, discussions are underway with the state government to provide further financial support to help pilgrims meet their obligations.
“Last year, the governor provided financial assistance to pilgrims, and we are hopeful that similar support will be available this year,” he said, reassuring intending pilgrims.
Alhaji Ibrahim reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all participants from Sokoto State.
He expressed his appreciation for Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s continued support in making the Hajj exercise a success.
