NPA goes tough on use of NXP for export cargos

The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has directed its technical partners, Truck Transit Parks Limited, TTP, to enforce the mandatory implementation of the Nigeria Export Proceed (NXP) as a key requirement for processing export cargoes.

This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and streamline operations at the nation’s ports.

In a notice issued to stakeholders in the maritime industry, TTP announced that effective this week, all export trucks will be required to comply with the NXP procedure before accessing the ports.

The notice urged stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the requirements and adhere strictly to avoid disruptions in cargo processing and transportation.

The notice read in part: “Mandatory Implementation of Nigeria Export Proceed (NXP) for Export Trucks. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has directed that, effective February 2025, the implementation of the Nigeria Export Proceed (NXP) will be mandatory for the movement of all export trucks to the port.

“This measure is aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing the efficiency of export processes. To ensure a smooth transition, all stakeholders are kindly required to familiarize themselves with the NXP requirements and adhere strictly to the new procedures.

“Compliance is essential to avoid disruptions in the processing and transportation of export goods.

“We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to ensuring seamless port operations.”

Reacting to the directive, Managing Director of Diamond Star Export Processing Terminal, Mr. Olatunji Baale, commended the policy, stating that it is designed to ensure the repatriation of foreign earnings from export trade while tracking the movement of these proceeds.

Baale explained that the policy aims to enforce exporters’ compliance with regulations governing export trade.

He said: “Exporters are expected to complete necessary documentation with their banks to ensure foreign currencies are repatriated back to the country.

“This new policy, implemented by the NPA through TTP, serves as a pre-condition for the admittance of trucks carrying export cargoes into the ports and ensures that these exports comply with NXP requirements.

“We are optimistic about the seamless implementation of this policy as it will contribute to the success of non-oil export initiatives, which have already seen tremendous growth.”
