Maryjane Benson talks about her new movie “The Counselor” and marriage

Nollywood actress Maryjane Benson has opened up about her latest movie, The Counselor, shedding light on its intriguing storyline and her role in the film.
Speaking about the movie, she shared, “I played the role of Jane, a loyal friend to a woman in love with a mama’s boy. His mother insisted that before they could get married, she had to serve as their counselor. This led to endless battles, with me always standing by my friend, advising and defending her against the mother-in-law’s interference. It was a war of wills until, in the end, the mother-in-law finally gave in, leading to a happy ending.”
Beyond her career, Maryjane also spoke about her personal life, revealing how she met her husband and her thoughts on marriage.
“My husband and I met in Lagos in 2014 while he was on vacation in Nigeria. We became best friends, and after years of friendship, we finally tied the knot at Ikoyi Registry on July 29, 2023. We then had our traditional wedding in Abuja on August 4, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. It was a celebration of love that I will never forget. As for lessons learned, I’m still enjoying my marriage and the blessings that come with it,” she said.
Addressing the idea that marriage is not an achievement, she offered her perspective: “Marriage is an achievement only when it fulfills God’s intended purpose—companionship, love, unity, trust, and mutual support. It goes beyond just the wedding ceremony; it is a lifelong commitment to uphold the vows made on that special day.”
Maryjane Benson has featured in several notable films, including Immortal Vows, New Money, My Siblings and I, and many more. With The Counselor now added to her filmography and her personal life thriving, she continues to shine both on and off the screen.
