Amucheazi, Barth Nnaji, Achebe, Anyaoku Lead Igbo Leaders of Thought

The pioneer Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, has been appointed the new President of the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT).
Amucheazi succeeds the late Prof. Ben Nwabueze, a renowned constitutional lawyer and the organization’s founding president.
Also appointed were former Minister for Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, as Vice President, and Prof. Jerry Chidozie Chukwuokolo as Secretary until full elections are held to fill other vacant positions.
His Majesty Igwe Alfred Achebe, Agbogidi, the Obi of Onitsha, was named leader and patron of the organization, while international statesman Chief Emeka Anyaoku was also appointed as a patron.
The appointments were announced during an extraordinary ILT meeting in Enugu over the weekend.
In a communiqué, the new ILT President and convener of the meeting, Prof. Amucheazi, highlighted the need for the group’s reconvening after a year-long mourning period for its founding president, Prof. Nwabueze, and other prominent leaders such as Prof. Chiweyite Ejike, Archbishop MSC Anikwenwa, Dara Mbazulike Amaechi, HRH Igwe Prof. Chukwuemeka Ike, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Senator Anyim Ude, and Col. Ben Gbulie.
The resolutions included a commitment to sustaining Igbo unity, with particular recognition of the achievement of electing Senator John Azuta-Mbata as President-General of the apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
On the issue of Igbo survival in Nigeria, the group expressed concerns about infrastructural neglect in the region, particularly abandoned road and railway projects since 1970. The dilapidation of roads, they noted, has led to numerous avoidable accidents, including a recent tragic incident at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu State.
The ILT further criticized the proscription of the non-violent Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), contrasting it with the government’s perceived inaction against groups like Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen.
“ILT, in line with the will of our founding president, Professor Ben Nwabueze, SAN, urges the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to unconditionally release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This move will certainly promote peace not only in the East but throughout Nigeria,” Amucheazi appealed.
